One of the reasons I started writing when I was young, and also reading a lot, was because in my life, it seemed like people were required to say only certain things when they talked to each other, but in books, people were honest about how it really feels to be alive. When I read books, finally, I could relate to writers’ and characters’ thoughts, and then I felt very known in the world in a good way. Others had experiences like mine—that was important for me to know.

A wonderful writer, friend, and supporter of writers passed away recently, Jennifer Simpson. The women at Plume: A Writer’s Companion created a podcast that features Jennifer’s writing, read in her family and friends’ voices, including mine. The effect is beautiful, hearing Jenn’s honest words spoken through so many voices.

⬆️ This journal just ended today. Monumental! From here, a new collection of ideas and stories will begin. This one has been a good journal to me, but I’m also relieved to close its cover and start a new book.
